Together, they represent our commitment to ensuring every resident has access to safe, beautiful, and meaningful public spaces. East Macon

Why East Macon?

East Macon is home to millennia’ worth of history, with over 12,000 years of continuous human habitation. As Macon prepares for the designation of the Ocmulgee Mounds National Historical Park to become America’s next National Park, it’s imperative to strengthen communities in East Macon by strengthening the Public Realm. East Macon is located adjacent to downtown, just across the Ocmulgee River. By investing in parks and trails in East Macon, Macon’s RCC initiative improves connectivity and access to economic opportunity throughout the city.

Downtown Macon

Why Downtown?

Downtown is the historic heart of Macon, and the center of Macon’s ongoing revitalization. With wide, treelined sidewalks, residences, and an abundance of local businesses, downtown has something for everyone. Downtown is a key part of what makes Macon unique.

Macon’s RCC team envisions a Downtown that is thriving and resilient, where all residents and visitors feel a sense of belonging and empowerment.

RCC projects in Downtown Macon include:
-Revitalization of Rosa Parks Square to optimize the space for civic engagement and public life.
-Macon’s Downtown Christmas Lights to create an opportunity for socio-economic mixing and value creation in Macon’s urban core.
-Revitalization and Transformation of Macon’s Cotton Avenue Plaza from a car-centric, inaccessible space to a vibrant pedestrian plaza.

Pleasant Hill

Why Pleasant Hill?
Pleasant Hill, a historically Black neighborhood, is one of Macon’s most historically and culturally significant neighborhoods. Located just north of Downtown Macon, Pleasant Hill has experienced decades of disinvestment. In the 1960s, the construction of I-75 cut the neighborhood in half, displacing residents, reducing property values, and severing resident connections. Macon’s RCC initiative aims to restore connection across I-75, improve sidewalks and green spaces, and create opportunities for economic and social connection in Pleasant Hill.
