East Macon
East Macon
As Macon prepares for the designation of the Ocmulgee Mounds National Historical Park as America’s next National Park, Macon’s RCC coalition envisions an East Macon that is connected to its past and present and whose residents have access to safe, high quality, and engaging public spaces.
Active Projects
-Construction of the Muscogee Cultural Center to create a cultural welcome center for the Ocmulgee Mounds National Historical Park
-Construction of Bicentennial Park leading to the proposed new entrance to Ocmulgee Mounds -National Historical Park to commemorate 200 years since the founding of the city.
Why East Macon?
East Macon is home to millennia’ worth of history, with over 12,000 years of continuous human habitation. As Macon prepares for the designation of the Ocmulgee Mounds National Historical Park to become America’s next National Park, it’s imperative to strengthen communities in East Macon by strengthening the Public Realm. East Macon is located adjacent to downtown, just across the Ocmulgee River. By investing in parks and trails in East Macon, Macon’s RCC initiative improves connectivity and access to economic opportunity throughout the city.
