Community Voices
This work is grounded in lived experience. Hear from some of the people shaping the future of our civic commons

"Integrating mental health more fully into the civic commons means designing spaces and programming that encourage belonging, foster joy, and provide pathways to support. It means acknowledging that benches, plazas, trails, and parks are not just physical assets but environments that can strengthen emotional well-being, reduce stigma, and create everyday opportunities for people to feel connected and whole."
Andrea Cooke

"Public space is important to me in Macon because it's where community comes alive. I love to see people sharing conversations, exercising, or enjoying family outings. It reminds me of the beauty of connection and togetherness."
DSTO Moore

"Everyone deserves safe, beautiful, affordable places to hang out! Public spaces are the living rooms of our community - they help us stay connected to our city and neighbors in a healthy, affordable way. At Bike Walk Macon, we work to make it easier to walk or bike to these spots so you can get there safely, enjoy them more, and experience all the benefits they offer."

Get Involved
We believe in the power of community to shape public spaces that reflect our collective values. If you align with our shared vision, a Macon-Bibb where public spaces connect people, foster civic engagement, support sustainability, and create lasting value for generations to come, we invite you to get involved.
Our network includes partners working across mobility advocacy, trail development, neighborhood revitalization, and more. Whether you're an individual, organization, or local leader, there’s a place for you in this movement.
Together, our goal is to imagine, build, and sustain civic infrastructure that strengthens connection and enhances quality of life for everyone.

Our Journey So Far
Since joining the national Reimagining the Civic Commons movement in 2018, Macon has made bold strides in creating people-first places. Here’s a quick look at key milestones.
Where We’re Reimagining Together
Macon-Bibb’s RCC initiative centers on three communities: Downtown, Pleasant Hill, and East Macon. These neighborhoods are shaping what collaboration, connection, and care look like in public spaces.

Downtown Macon
Downtown Macon is the city’s central hub, rich in history and full of energy. Our projects here aim to foster civic life and belonging through reimagined public spaces like Rosa Parks Square and festive experiences like the Downtown Christmas Lights.

Pleasant Hill
A historic neighborhood reconnecting across generations through new trails, gathering spaces, and cultural investment. From the Pleasant Hill Pathway to revitalized parks and community centers, our projects are restoring connections severed by the interstate and creating safe, vibrant spaces that honor the neighborhood’s legacy.
